No boat work this weekend

(0)

We did not do too much this weekend.  Just stayed around the house and did two geocaches that were nearby.  One was in a beautiful area of glacial moraines and lakes.  The Swans were trumpeting and the Loon was screaming and the frogs were croaking on the 20 degree C day.

The captain is still uncertain as to what to do to bundle the new mast wires so as to minimise rubbing by the lower halyard and the possibility of snaging the halyard.  He was thinking of taking a 1.5″ flexible pvc and slitting it and then applying radiator clamps to shrink it to a snug fit.  The clamps would them have to be taped.  This may create more problems that it solves…..More thinking required..

The weekend in storage

(0)

We just returned from the winter storage building at our marina.  We re-installed the bow sprit teak, cabin doors, the new breaker panel door and a few other wood related items on Saturday.  Sunday was spent applying VC17 Original to the bottom.  We had 3 quarts and the first time around put it on sparingly and used 1.25 quarts.  The second time around it looked better and then the third filled in the sparse spots and that left about 1/4 qt for filling in the bare spots left at the cradle touch points.

In the course of the weekend we noticed the bow sprit cable attach point forward had too small of pin inserted and could pull through the attach point hole.  It looks to be 1/2″ but could easily accomodate a 3/4″ pin.  We need to correct before the roller furler is installed again.  We are almost ready to launch in the next month or so.

GPS vs eLoran

There is way more to this subject than meets the eye.  I agree with the author as I have experienced GPS disruptions over the years in critical precision navigation situations (in fog and precipitation).  Here is the URL for the article –> http://sidt.gpsworld.com/gpssidt/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=407619 <–
