Dodger Issenglass Glass

Comments Off

I went to Angola Canvas to pick up Inspiration’s covering that I had taken in for repair.  There were a couple of smaller issues and one major issue.  The Issenglass was severely scratched (by them I think but am not too sure of that) and has to be replaced.  We were quoted a price of $75-80 so we said OK go ahead.  I know there some issues with the glass so it was not a big deal.

We did go ahead and put a second coat of cetol glossy on the boom gallows.  I think we will be glad we did that.  It is a nice looking piece of wood that sticks right out as a focal point.

A beautiful, windy sunny day with temperatures of 45 degrees F.  The sun makes the heart grow stronger.  I love the sun.  Lakes are now frozen solid and we cannot do any of the water sports like kayaking.

I am refinishing the Boom Gallows on my YS35.  I applied 3 coats of Cetol Marine Light and today applied the Cetol Gloss.  It looks wet and deep.  I am trying to decide if I want to put one more coat of Gloss on.  Right now I think I will but the current coat has to dry for a while berofe I do it.

Next on the list is the original boarding ladder.  I am debating whether to strip it all or just do a touch up.  It may take more time to touch up than stripping the whole thing.

After the ladder comes the hatch cover.  I wish I could replace the Plex.  Whoever installed it did not make the holes sufficiently large to compensate for expansion and the plex has cracked new the screw fittings.  I think I will add an article on the YSO BB about this.

Winter Trip to Inspiration

Comments Off

I made the first Winter trip to Inspiration a couple of weeks ago.  I took a friend, Jim V, with me.  We cleaned the strainer, charged the batteries, removed the Doger, drained the bilge and did a general inspection of the boat.  It took two hours and then we returned to Indiana.

The strainer is somewhat problematic as the bronze retainer screw was corroded in half.  I may drill the two retainer screws out and install a SS retainer wire or I may use a tye-wrap.  Probably the tye-wrap is better as it won’t be a dis-similar metal.  thsi will be a subject for another day.
